Clinical Experience at East-West University
Clinical practice and specialty rotations are inseparable part of medical education at East-West University. Through structured, hands-on training, students develop the clinical competence, confidence, and empathy needed to care for patients across all fields of medicine. Our program ensures that every future physician gain both foundational skills and advanced specialty exposure.
What Students Will Learn
Patient Communication & Clinical Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive, patient-centered medical histories.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with adults, children, and families.
- Perform full physical examinations across specialties, including internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, OB/GYN, and neurology.
- Assess developmental milestones in pediatric patients and perform prenatal and postpartum evaluations in OB/GYN.
Diagnostic & Clinical Reasoning Skills
- Interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies (X-rays, CT, MRI), ECGs, and biopsies.
- Analyze endoscopic findings and specialized diagnostic tools.
- Develop accurate differential diagnoses based on clinical and diagnostic data.
Essential Procedural Skills
Hands-on training includes a wide range of clinical procedures, such as:
- venipuncture, IV cannulation, and injections
- lumbar puncture and nasogastric tube insertion
- suturing, wound care, and local anesthesia
- abdominal, gynecological, neurological, and pediatric examinations
- immunizations and office-based procedures in family medicine
Emergency & Life-Saving Skills
- Respond to acute cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and trauma-related emergencies.
- Provide pediatric emergency care and assist in critical situations.
- Perform Basic Life Support (BLS), defibrillation, abdominal auscultation, and other stabilizing procedures.
Patient Management & Treatment Planning
- Create individualized patient care plans for acute and chronic conditions.
- Prescribe and interpret treatments while monitoring patient progress.
- Coordinate follow-up care and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Surgical & Specialty Rotations
Students receive extensive exposure across major medical specialties:
Surgery
- Assist in operations and perform abdominal assessments, and wound management.
Pediatrics
- Conduct pediatric exams, immunizations, and manage childhood emergencies.
Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Perform pelvic exams, prenatal assessments, and postpartum care.
Neurology
- Conduct cranial nerve, motor, and sensory evaluations.
Family Medicine
- Manage diverse primary care cases and provide routine preventive care.
Emergency & Critical Care
- Manage life-threatening conditions with confidence and precision.
Oncology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Psychiatry, ENT, Ophthalmology
- Gain exposure to specialized diagnostic and management approaches.
