History

Our cooperation was initiated by the project implemented in 2004-2005 under The American University (Washington DC) leadership. The idea was following: Universities located in our region (South Caucasus and Turkey) were in contact with distant universities in the West and East, and there was almost no co-operation with similar centers in neighboring countries. Consequently, the main goal was to strengthen regional cooperation between educational institutions participating in the project. As a result, the nine state and private universities of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey have collaborated together with the American University Global Peace Center. It should be emphasized that multilateral partnerships have become useful for each university and their representatives. Cooperation continued after the project. The best proof of this is the joint decision of the founder and the first rector of the Azerbaijan’s one of the most high rated Khazar University, Prof Hamlet Isakhanli and former vice-rector of the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Prof. Teimuraz Khurodze on establishment of “East-West Teaching University” in Georgia. This decision was supported by a well-known businessman in Georgia, PhD Zaza Nishnianidze. As one of the founders of the university is the main shareholder of multiprofile and specialized clinics located in Tbilisi, it was found reasonable to implement Medical Doctor education program first. It is well-known how much the existence of clinics inside university structure means for the university for upbringing highly qualified medical specialists. The overall efforts made it possible to establish a university, which we think will be one of the most outstanding institutions in the region, with its material base, academic personnel with adequate competence and educational programs with modern standards.
